How to Prepare for Your Maternity Photo Shoot

Your pregnancy is a chapter of life unlike any other, and you deserve to celebrate the occasion, feel like the gorgeous woman you are, and preserve precious memories for a lifetime with maternity portraits. Take it from a maternity photographer with decades of experience: how you prepare can make a difference! These are my top prep tips to follow for your maternity photos.

  1. Choose Your Ideal Photographer

This may sound obvious but the most important choice you will make with regard to your maternity photography is choosing a photographer. Your photographer is the artist behind your photos: the look, the style, the poses, and the overall aesthetic will depend on them. Not only this but your photographer affects the experience too and whether you will be at ease and enjoy your photoshoot. Choose a photographer whose work you love.

  1. Plan Your Color Scheme

After booking your photo shoot, it's time to consider the color scheme you want. This could depend on the general look you want for your portraits, the decor of the room at home where you want to hang your portraits, and whether you've opted for studio or outdoor maternity photos. Not sure? Ask for your photographer's input. I'm always happy to recommend color schemes that suit my client's tastes and complement their looks in the most beautiful way.

  1. Shop Early for Your Wardrobe

Get ready to do some fun shopping! With a color scheme chosen, the next step is to find your wardrobe. For your convenience, Amazon has many options for maternity gowns and other gorgeous maternity wear in a wide range of styles and colors.

Make sure to give yourself time to order some pieces, try them on, and exchange or return items. When you're trying items on, be sure to think about how your body will change between now and your photo shoot, although this isn't a concern with most maternity pieces because they're flexible enough to allow for that growing baby bump.

  1. Plan to Pamper Yourself

Most moms only have one or two maternity photo shoots in their life at most. Make the experience all that it can be and consider splurging on professional hair and makeup for your session. It makes the day even more special, allows you to enjoy some time getting pampered, takes away the stress of doing your own hair and makeup, and ensures that you'll look your absolute best for your portraits. After all, who doesn't feel amazing after a blowout?

Planning the Maternity Photo Shoot of Your Dreams

You're doing something unique by bringing a beautiful new life into the world, and you deserve a maternity session that's fun, exciting, and glamorous. Every mom-to-be has her own vision for her portraits, and I'm here to bring yours to life. Book your Hickory, NC maternity photography with me, and let's start planning your dream photo shoot.
