The cake smash: it’s a classic tradition for babies’ first birthdays. You get your baby all dolled up in a fun theme with a beautiful background, get a fabulous theme-designed cake, and let the baby do what kids do best: get messy! These cake smash photos make for fun keepsakes, so I was thrilled to be able to create this joyful first birthday photo session for little Alice.

I met baby Alice when she was just a few days old when I took her newborn portraits. She and her wonderful mom Candice were such a pleasure to work with that when Candice reached out to me to book Alice’s one-year photo session, I couldn’t wait to reconnect. We opted for a bright and fun watermelon theme, and it was the perfect way to bring out Alice’s rich and vibrant personality.

Little Alice was the queen of facial expressions during her session! She gave us the full range for her gallery while she dug into her cake, from goofy grins to stares of thoughtful concentration. Afterward, she had a great time splashing around in the perfectly baby-sized bathtub. These fun bath splash shots are included in every cake smash session at my studio.

The cake was decorated perfectly to fit Alice’s watermelon theme. Each of my cake smash sessions includes a cake which I coordinate for you (because a parent with a nearly-one-year-old doesn’t need any more work on their plate!). I always order cake smash cakes from Sweeties by Lilly and they do a fabulous job every time.

I'm still flying high from one of the most wonderful shoots I've had in a while. The handsome little guy in front of the lens is the son of the Solorzano family.

Speaking of which, the S was so much fun to get to know. I could have talked with them all day!I found out we had so much in common! I can tell they are going to be the best parents in the whole world!)

As for baby S, he was a little angel however he made me work for these images. I'm not gonna lie. When he showed up bright-eyed and curious, I thought the session might have turned out a little tricky, but Melissa was able to rock him to sleep, and that knocked Baby S out for the rest of the session.

I recently had an awesome session with Kelsey H and their adorable newborn, Miss Baby S

This session was special because I had a new prop I have wanted to try out. And, it goes without saying, I was really excited to have such a sweet girl to try the prop out with.

Ms. S was radiating cuteness before, but the rosebud bucket that was made by Hello Little Props really added to the photo.

As you can see from the pictures, the color of the bucket really helped bring out the soft tone of her skin. I'll definitely be using this again in future sessions.
